October 14, 2012 - Leaving the Outer Banks, Plymouth, Breakfast in Rocky Mount

The Wheres:

Oh Hatteras beach house
Plymouth, NC
Rocky Mount, NC

This was our last morning in the Oh Hatteras beach house, Salvo and the Outer Banks. We left as the sun was just starting to rise over the ocean and grabbed a few more pictures of the fading stars and the glow from the eastern sun.

Our ultimate destination was Savannah, Georgia but we planned to grab breakfast in Rocky Mount, NC and meet up with a few people that I've never met in person. More on that later. To burn a few minutes we stopped for gas and a car wash in Plymouth, NC which is last town you pass through before the state starts really becoming "Outer Banksy" and the first town you pass through on the way back that starts looking like all the other towns between the beach and the mountains. We stretched our legs at the visitor center that was closed, grabbed a geocache and visited a lighthouse.

Geocaching has a very strong presence on Twitter and I've been following and snarking with several cachers from the Raleigh area for months (resulting in superb shwarma recommendations). One of those cool kids is Molly (@mo11ymonkey). Molly brought her monkey crew along for the ride and actually suggested the restaurant we ate at, Highway Diner. The food was exactly what we needed after a few hours on the road and it was super cool meeting Molly and her commando squad. They even helped me find two caches in Rocky Mount.

Also meeting us for food was Esther's California to Texas road-trip buddy from last year, Resa. So new people, yay!

Tomorrow, less travel and more seeing places, followed by more travel again.
